Busy Jewelry Weekend

October 27th, 2009

Just thought I would share with you guys some of the great projects that I was working on this weekend.  First, on Saturday morning, I was headed to meet with Krissy (I know crazy coincidence) of  Three Little Birds Stationary store in Southend about some amazing logo and stationary designs she created for me (more on that to come).  But in exchange for the logo work she did I made her a beautiful maroon and crystal necklace. See…

This is the Necklace she chose:

I gave her two choices though, so this one is still available:

After visiting with Krissy I headed home to work on some very important designs, first was for Candice Lanning of The Beautiful Mess.  She won the Designs By Krissy Blog Contest on Alyse Woodwards blog in September.  She is just absolutely the sweetest person I have met in a while.  She and her husband are so cute and they take the most amazing photographs.  Anyways, they are hoping to adopt a baby in the next couple of months so along with the necklace that she won for herself I also created a necklace for her future adopted daughter and the biological mother.  I was just so touched by how thoughtful this gesture was.  Here are the designs that we came up with:

Here is her necklace (please remember I am not a photographer, as if you needed reminded):

Its been too long!

October 19th, 2009

So here I am coming back to my little neglected blog with my theoretical tail between my legs.  I am in the midst of a major online presence overhaul and with that comes some long overdue love to my blog.  In the next couple of weeks I will be launching a website, so if you have ever been to www.designsbykrissy.com before then you will be able to see more than just a “This website is coming soon” message.  My good friend Laura Gainor came over yesterday to take some pictures for my website.  She is an awesome photographer and just launched her own photography business called Blue Wheel Photography.  You have to check out her site and then book a photo shoot!

In the meantime between the new site launch and all the holiday rush I promise to be better about posting here.  If you have any ideas for what you would like me to discuss including new jewelry, wedding plans or life with my fiance, let me know, leave me a comment!  Here is a picture of my latest creation:

Charlotte Magazine… To Die For

February 18th, 2009

This is so exciting to report… For the first time EVER I have one of my necklaces featured in a publication.  Charlotte Magazine does a monthly “To Die for” style section. This month the fashion focus was on statement necklaces. My necklace, the Leann necklace (named for my mom) is the first necklace featured. A big thanks goes out to Melissa Lamkin who styled the spread. She is awesome!!! So if you get a chance go to your local book store and check out page 28 of the magazine. Also If you happen to like my necklace go to my ETSY page and see if there is anything you would like to own. I also do custom orders upon request. Thanks to everyone for your never ending support!!!!

So one of my newest designs incorporates vintage pieces, specifically broaches into necklaces.  Here is the first one I made.  I already sold this one, but will be getting to work on more like it soon.  Unfotunately the broaches are all one of a kind, as I found them in some antique stores while home over Christmas.  I would love to hear your comments on this necklace as well as suggestions for more in the future.

Two More Weddings, Just Around the Corner

September 3rd, 2008

As September sneaks upon us most people would tend to believe that wedding season is coming to an end…NOT SO!  I have two weddings that I am designing for one in September and one in December to keep me busy.  Sarah Beggs is getting married on September 20th to Jon Wilson in Pembroke, Virginia.  With fall being my favorite time of the year (mainly because my red hair matches the color of the changing leaves) I really am looking forward to this wedding.  Sarah has chosen a strapless sweatheart dress in a beautiful shade of Merlot for her bridal party.  I am designing the earrings for her 4 bridesmaids and one flower girl.  Just like I did for Carolyn’s wedding all of the earrings will be different.  Sarah already picked the designs that she liked and decided who will get each pair.  But because I have friends in the bridal party who may be checking this site I can’t post pictures just yet.  When we get closer to the wedding I will share though. The other wedding I am designing for is Erin Dunne to her fiance Jimmy.  Erin was referred to my site through Jessica Claire’s photography site.  She saw the earrings that I designed for Carolyn’s wedding and contacted me to make 8 pairs for her bridal party.  Erin sounds like such a sweet girl and I can’t wait to send her all the jewelry I create for her party.  When Erin and I emailed she voiced her frustration over trying to find classy, elegant jewelry to match the beautiful gowns she chose for her bridesmaids.  I am so happy to help her design the look that she wanted.  I will be working on her earrings as soon as my supplies arrive, so stayed tuned for those! If anyone else is interested in having me design earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. for your wedding party feel free to email me at krissy@designsbykrissy.com.

New Designs on the Way…

June 23rd, 2008

Red Coral NecklaceOver the past couple of weeks a heat wave has taken Charlotte by storm and what better way to beat the heat then by wearing jewelry that is even hotter.  I made this red coral teardrop necklace for a friend’s belated Mother’s Day gift.  There is no better time that now to be designing jewelry because the colors are so vibrant and beautiful.  I also made another necklace that looks similar to this in purple.  So wedding season is really getting under way now.  I am almost done with the jewelry for my friend Carolyn’s wedding, but I can’t post it here yet, but soon because the wedding is only 2 months away.  But I will also be designing  the jewelry for my cousin Rachel’s bridal party.  Her wedding is very soon, August 1.  Then I will also be doing the jewelry for Sarah Beggs wedding, which is in September.   I will be posting more frequently now that I have a great new camera.  Now it is easy to photograph my designs, so get on my case if I don’t post more often.

Back to the Burgh

February 21st, 2008

Pittsburgh, PA - City That I LoveAs many of you know I still call Pittsburgh, PA my home, even though I have been living in Charlotte, North Carolina for the past 2 years. Well I am heading back to my old stomping grounds for the weekend with my bestest Meghan Trainor in tow to see my brother Andy off to Australia for his study abroad semester. I am very jealous that he will be living on the beach for the next 5 months! Anyways, I am really excited about this trip as I will be spending some quality time with Mommy and Daddy Miller as well as my other best friend from the Burgh, Lauren Rapetti. We have some really exciting plans for the weekend including a trip to one of my favorite bead stores The Bead Mine, down on the South Side as well as a shopping day out to Shady Side. Plus lots of fun times at night hopping around the great city of Pittsburgh. My mom was busy hustlin’ some of my jewelry around my dad’s office this past weekend so I am very excited to see what people bought. I always love to learn what type of jewelry people are interested in!  Thanks to Kelly for being one of my best customers!!

The only sad thing is that unfortunately I won’t get to see my baby sister Emily this weekend. She is busy at PSU volunteering at the biggest event on campus “THON.” I hope all your hard work pays off this weekend Emily! I will miss you :*(

I’m sure we will have a blast in Steelers Country. I will be sure to keep everyone up to date on any of the great bead and jewelry items that I find! Till next Time~Krissy
